Do you order your prescription through your community pharmacy?
From 1 June 2026, patients in Sandwell will need to request all repeat prescriptions directly from their GP practice, rather than through their community pharmacy. This change has been agreed locally following feedback from community pharmacies and GP practices across the area.
To be clear, your chosen pharmacy will still dispense your medication as normal but you will need to request your repeat prescription directly with us.
You can request your repeat prescription:
Online using your NHS account/app (Log in - NHS App Online)
Online using the patient online service (SystmOnline Login)
By handing your request in at reception
Please note that we are unable to accept prescription requests over the phone.
If you have any questions or need help ordering your medication, please contact your pharmacy or the practice. Support is available for patients who are unable to order prescriptions themselves.
Why do we need to change?
Local system change: Across Sandwell/Black Country, GP practices and pharmacies have agreed to stop pharmacy-led ordering.
Reduce medication waste: Medicines are often ordered unecessarily, leading to stockpiling and waste.
Improve patient safety: Reduces risk of patients receiving discontiuned or incorrect medicines.
Empower patients: Encourages patients to take control of ordering what they actually need.
Proven approach: Similar changes have already been implemented successfully in other areas.
